2 Weeks 2 Make It

2 Weeks 2 Make It is a music video production competition dreamt up by Ed Cartledge of Sort Of...Films and co-project managed with Rob Speranza of The South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network. The event has run for two years so far (2005-2006 & 2006-2007) and has been sponsored by Business Link South Yorkshire and supported by a large number of other organisations, companies and individuals including:

Inspiral, Sound Control, Sheffield Newspapers, Pure Records, Alamo Records, Warp Films, G2 Studios, Mosaic Studios, Sheffield City Hall, The Showroom Cinema, Sheffield Independent Film, Stoney and many many more.

In a nutshell....we find as many willing and qualified filmmakers/production companies/video artists and team them up randomly with talented local music acts who have already been selected via a demo submission. The teams then have precisely 2 weeks to make a music video good enough for MTV. The results are screened in various locations and made available on a compilation DVD available for sale.

The prizes include recording sessions for the winning bands, vouchers, memberships to the South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network and tickets to events. The two main prizes for the 2006-2007 competition year were:

a) The chance to make a music video for Mercury Prize nominated international folk star Kate Rusby (Critic's Prize) with support from Pure Records.

b) The chance to make a music video for upcoming Sheffield act Stoney (Reader's Prize) with support from Inspiral.

AND THE WINNERS (2006-2007) ARE!!!

Reader's Prize (voted for by readers of Sheffield Newspapers)

PADDY ORANGE - 'Love at First Sight' by Monkey Liberation Front

Critics Prize (voted for by industry professionals)

SCREAMING MIMI - 'Dorothy Millette' by Digital Ink (Christian Knowles-Fitton)

Honourable Mention (voted for by industry professionals)

DEAD LIKE HARRY - 'Shallow Grave' by Deranged Pictures

The idea for the competition has now been copied in other cities as a result of the success of 2 Weeks 2 Make It. We are looking to expand the competition significantly over the coming years. To be kept up to date, contact Rob Speranza and ask to be put on the SYFN mailing list.
